Mentorship of Small Contractors

SANRAL has undergone a comprehensive review of all proforma tender documents, aligning them with the objectives outlined in its Transformation Policy. Central to this revision process is the incorporation of a dedicated section that delineates the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders involved in SANRAL projects. These documents now encompass additional provisions outlining the compensation SANRAL provides to various parties for the specific purpose of procuring, training, mentoring, and guiding subcontractors under the main contractor's supervision. When SANRAL facilitates economic development opportunities for Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and local labor, a cornerstone of these initiatives is the emphasis on training and capacity building. RAM department fully adheres to these guidelines and policies, ensuring that all training and mentorship activities are conducted in accordance with SANRAL standards. Operating within SANRAL's framework, RAM seamlessly integrates SANRAL's documents into its operations, ensuring alignment across all endeavors.

Stakeholder Engagement

Stakeholder Engagement lies at the core of the RAM department's operations, serving as its lifeblood. Effective collaboration with various stakeholders is imperative for RAM to function optimally. Here are key stakeholders we actively engage with:
  1. Municipalities
  2. Evaluation:
  3. Other projects
  4. RRMs (Routine Road Maintenance)
  5. Our engagements with these stakeholders are pivotal in maintaining consistency across our road network, particularly concerning road signs and line markings.

Incubator Programme

The RAM department has developed methods and methodologies to ensure the effective training of Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) across Eastern Cape. While numerous SMMEs have undergone training, ongoing complaints persist, and the economic conditions continue to deteriorate despite the government's extensive efforts in skills development programs aimed at underdeveloped and disadvantaged groups. In response to these challenges, the RAM department has undertaken a comprehensive investigation to identify the root causes and sustainability issues within government-led programs. Recognizing that training alone is insufficient without sustainability measures, we have initiated an incubator program to support and sustain SMMEs beyond the training phase. The incubator program aims to provide ongoing support and maintenance to SMMEs post-training. Our department is diligently working to develop a detailed framework outlining the operation of the incubator program. Through this initiative, we are committed to ensuring that SMMEs receive continuous assistance and guidance, thereby promoting their long-term success and contributing to economic growth and stability.
